OV’s Taylor Hero Wins ‘Wonders Of Plastics’ Essay Contest, David Merrifield Gets Third

(Staff Photo by Amanda York) The Society of Plastics Engineers recently held their 17th annual “Wonders of Plastics” essay contest, open to all junior and senior high school students.

For the seventh year in a row, OVHS teacher Tina Hayden’s class has earned the first place honor, this year from a field of over 50 essays. Taylor Hero, son of Rick and Jerri Hero of Spencer, won the contest and will now move on to the international competition. Hero earned a $200 prize as well as $300 for his teacher. He will be competing for a grand prize of $1,000 for himself and $1,000 for the teacher.
